This case study focuses on the implementation of V-Series ball valves in a waste-to-energy plant located in Kent, UK. The plant faced significant challenges due to steam losses, which were costing approximately £23,000 annually. An ultrasonic survey conducted in 2014 highlighted these issues, leading to the installation of V1 ball valves in 2016. The installation resulted in notable improvements, including reduced maintenance costs by eliminating the need for low-quality valve replacements, enhanced accuracy in hydrostatic tests, and a decrease in the reliance on expensive specialist services. The pressure loss during boiler hydrostatic tests was significantly reduced from around 10.0 Bar G to less than 1 Bar G after the new valves were installed. Additionally, the new valves improved safety by minimizing risks associated with hot pipework exposure. The case study outlines the background, challenges, and solutions associated with the valve installation, emphasizing the operational benefits achieved.
