This case study examines Nowcom's implementation of Varnish Enterprise to address challenges related to caching and bandwidth costs. Nowcom, a technology company serving the automotive and financial services sectors, faced issues with their previous open-source Varnish Cache solution, particularly during failover events and due to inadequate cache size. The study details how Varnish Enterprise, specifically its Massive Storage Engine (MSE), provided a more resilient caching solution that significantly improved performance and reduced Azure bandwidth costs by up to 15 times. The implementation allowed for better image resizing and standardization before uploading to Azure, leading to enhanced storage efficiency and reduced latency during maintenance. The results included substantial cost savings, improved response times, and increased engineering efficiency, with Nowcom saving over 100 hours annually on production issues. The case study highlights the effectiveness of Varnish Enterprise in meeting Nowcom's growing caching needs and improving overall operational efficiency.
