This case study details the deployment of the VDURA Data Platform V5000 by a global energy and renewables innovator to modernize its high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure for seismic modeling and renewable energy simulation. The previous storage environment, based on a Lustre-based system, faced limitations in price, performance, manageability, and efficiency. The new solution integrates NVMe flash and HDD storage under a unified control plane, providing high throughput and cost-efficient scaling. Key features include a usable capacity of approximately 26 PiB and sustained throughput exceeding 150 GiB/s for seismic workloads. The architecture is designed to handle both AI and HPC workloads efficiently, with a unified global namespace that simplifies management. The case study outlines the challenges faced, the solution implemented, and the significant performance and efficiency improvements achieved, establishing a future-ready foundation for ongoing energy research and innovation.
