Data Protection and Migration Solutions for Education Sector

This case study details the implementation of Veeam's data protection solutions at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ), which serves as the central IT services provider for universities in Munich, Germany. LRZ faced challenges in safeguarding vital applications and data for over 55,000 Microsoft 365 users across multiple institutions. The organization sought a solution that could ensure efficient backups, data sovereignty, and protection against ransomware threats. By deploying Veeam Data Platform Advanced, LRZ improved its backup and recovery processes, enabling reliable business continuity for over 1,000 virtual machines. The case study outlines how Veeam's solutions facilitated the migration from VMware to Nutanix, enhanced data protection capabilities, and allowed for seamless restores and longer backup retention. Additionally, LRZ joined the Veeam Cloud & Service Provider program to offer remote backup services, further strengthening its data protection strategy. The results indicate a significant improvement in data management and operational efficiency for the educational institutions served by LRZ.
