This case study details the collaboration between Brinker International, Inc. and Velociti to implement handheld point of sale (POS) devices across over 900 Chili’s locations. The primary objective of the project was to enhance the guest and team member experience by transitioning from stationary POS systems to mobile iPads, enabling servers to take orders and manage payments directly from the table. The installation process was conducted in phases, with careful planning to minimize disruption during regular business hours. Various challenges, including supply chain issues and equipment defects, arose during the implementation. However, effective communication and creative problem-solving allowed the teams to maintain the project timeline. By mid-November, all locations were equipped with the necessary technology, resulting in improved order accuracy and increased team member satisfaction. The partnership between Brinker and Velociti was successful, setting a model for future collaborative projects and demonstrating the adaptability of both teams in overcoming obstacles.
