This case study details the implementation of an ergonomics program at Carhartt, an American apparel company. The objective was to reduce OSHA recordable injuries and improve workplace safety by addressing musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) through ergonomic assessments and associate engagement. The program was rolled out in phases across three facilities, starting with the Irvine facility in 2022, followed by Camden in 2023, and Edmonton in 2024. Key personnel, including the U.S. Safety Manager and Safety Specialist, engaged leadership and associates to identify improvement opportunities. They utilized VelocityEHS Industrial Ergonomics software for training and AI-driven assessments, which facilitated the identification and mitigation of high-risk movements. The case study reports significant reductions in OSHA claims, including a 50% reduction at the Irvine facility and a 59% reduction at Camden. The program aims to foster a sustainable ergonomics culture that enhances associate wellbeing and morale while effectively managing safety risks.
