This case study details the implementation of advanced patient matching technology by Manifest MedEx, California's largest health information exchange (HIE). The organization faced challenges with managing duplicate medical records due to its extensive data network, which serves over 27 million residents. To address these issues, Manifest MedEx partnered with Verato to enhance its enterprise master patient index (EMPI) solution. The collaboration aimed to eliminate duplicate records and improve patient match rates, which are critical for ensuring accurate clinical and claims data association. The implementation of Verato Auto-Steward™ and later Verato Universal® MPI allowed for automated detection and resolution of duplicates, significantly reducing manual intervention. The case study highlights the positive outcomes since 2019, including improved health outcomes and reduced reporting burdens for providers. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the technology facilitated reliable data sharing for public health responses, showcasing the importance of accurate patient identification in healthcare delivery.
