This case study details the digitization project undertaken by the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory (MVRCL) to convert over one million physical records into digital formats. The MVRCL, a forensic science facility in Ohio, faced challenges with managing extensive paper records stored in various media formats, which complicated access to critical information. To address these issues, MVRCL partnered with Versaterm for a comprehensive document conversion solution. The project involved inventorying, transporting, and digitizing records, which included a variety of document types such as DNA analysis results and crime scene diagrams. The digitization process included quality control measures to ensure the integrity of the records. As a result, MVRCL staff can now quickly access files digitally, eliminating off-site storage needs and improving efficiency in responding to file requests. The successful completion of this project has positioned MVRCL to better support ongoing investigations and manage records effectively in the future.
