This case study details the implementation of the Victim Notifications Module by the Tucson Police Department (TPD) to enhance communication with crime victims. The objective was to automate notifications to victims regarding their cases, thereby improving their experience and reducing administrative burdens on TPD staff. The Versaterm CommunityConnect platform was deployed to facilitate this automation, allowing eligible victims to receive timely emails and text messages containing essential information about their cases. The study outlines the deployment timeline, starting with the Operations Division West in May 2017 and expanding department-wide by January 2018. It also describes the survey conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the notifications, comparing responses from victims who received automated messages to those who did not. Results indicated a significant increase in trust and satisfaction among victims who received notifications, highlighting the positive impact of the automated communication system on community relations.
