This case study details the implementation of the Versaterm CommunityConnect platform by York Regional Police, which serves the Regional Municipality of York in Ontario, Canada. The agency, comprising over 1,600 sworn officers, aims to enhance communication with its community of more than 1.2 million residents. The initiative began with a pilot project in 2020, focusing on improving service delivery and fostering community trust through technology. Since then, the agency has sent over 260,000 messages, including acknowledgments and crime victim notifications. The platform allows for automated alerts and updates, significantly improving response times and providing timely crime prevention tips. Additionally, the agency is customizing the platform for two pilot programs: Non-Injury Crash Reporting and Adult Pre-Charge Diversion, which aim to streamline reporting processes and offer diversion opportunities for first-time offenders. This innovative approach underscores the agency's commitment to modernizing its operations and enhancing public communication.
