This technical report presents a case study on the application of high-resolution full-waveform inversion (HR FWI) to a shallow faulted reservoir in the Tilenga field, located in western Uganda. The study outlines the challenges of using HR FWI in a shallow land environment, particularly the necessity for an accurate initial model to ensure reliable results. The authors describe the innovative methods employed to construct this initial model, which included first-break tomography and multi-dip-constrained tomography. The report details the acquisition of seismic data and the processing techniques used to enhance the model's resolution. It emphasizes the importance of accurately modeling the near-surface conditions to improve wavefield propagation and the overall effectiveness of HR FWI. The findings indicate that a robust initial model can lead to clearer imaging of geological structures, which is crucial for mitigating drilling risks and facilitating reservoir studies. The report concludes with acknowledgments of the collaboration with TotalEnergies and Viridien.
