This case study details the implementation of Vision Engineering's Mantis PIXO system by a manufacturer of low-orbit aerospace communication systems to enhance their visual inspection processes in compliance with AS9100 standards. The challenge faced was the inefficiency and user-unfriendliness of conventional binocular microscopes, which hindered early defect detection and accurate documentation. The Mantis PIXO system was trialled in a shared inspection space, providing immediate benefits such as faster documentation through direct image capture, user flexibility with quick adjustments for multiple users, and improved visibility for inspecting complex PCB features. The compact design also suited the company's constrained workstations. Feedback from users indicated significant improvements in visual clarity, comfort, and reporting speed, aligning well with AS9100 quality goals by reducing error rates and documentation time. The case study emphasizes the effectiveness of the Mantis PIXO system in streamlining inspection processes for aerospace components.
