This case study outlines the accessibility initiatives undertaken by the Colorado Environmental Film Festival (CEFF), established in 2006, to enhance inclusivity for audiences. CEFF features a diverse selection of short and feature-length films focusing on environmental issues. In response to the challenge of making nearly 100 films more accessible, the festival's organizers sought a partnership with accessibility providers, specifically VITAC, to implement captioning and audio description. The collaboration aimed to ensure a smooth integration of these features while working closely with filmmakers. The results indicated a positive reception from both filmmakers and audiences, with increased awareness of accessibility options being crucial for engagement. Festival Director Nicole Bickford noted the importance of publicizing these accessibility enhancements effectively, emphasizing that clear communication about available features is essential for attracting a wider audience. The initiative not only improved the festival experience but also laid the groundwork for future requirements regarding captioning in accepted films.
