This document is a case study detailing the implementation of a Next Generation Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) for a large energy organization. The project aimed to reduce the Citrix licensing footprint and costs, enhance integration with Azure Active Directory, and optimize operational procedures. Windval was engaged to design, operationalize, and deliver a full-stack VDI solution that would eliminate legacy Citrix platform support while providing enhanced service functionality. The approach included crafting a project charter to define roles, scope, and objectives, as well as developing an architecture strategy and service workbook to guide the Azure platform build process. A practical Proof of Concept (PoC) was executed to validate the architecture design, incorporating usability testing and stress tests. The results indicated significant cost savings, reduced architectural complexity, and a modern Azure Virtual Desktop environment, all built on Microsoft best practices.
