Platform Engineering Modernization Strategy

This document is a case study detailing the engagement of Windval in providing architecture leadership for a utility company in the energy and utilities sector. The primary objective was to leverage Windval’s expertise to modernize the IT platform engineering footprint, focusing on areas such as data backup and recovery, virtualization, data migration, engineering, and security. The initiative aimed to consolidate environments, reduce costs, and establish a future-proof platform architecture. Windval's approach included identifying initiatives and goals, conducting rapid immersion with stakeholders, and ensuring proactive coordination across major program initiatives. The case study emphasizes the importance of executive alignment and effective communication in managing interdependencies among platform initiatives. The results highlighted significant improvements, such as an 8:1 reduction in toolsets for data backup and recovery, cost reductions, and enhanced security measures. Overall, Windval's leadership was crucial in aligning the client’s platform environment with future project goals.
