WithSecure Sustainability UX Study Report

This document is a UX study report conducted by WithSecure, focusing on sustainability in software usage and its impact on energy consumption. The report outlines the research methodology, which involved an online survey assessing user sensitivity to sustainability and cybersecurity risks. Participants were shown different versions of the Elements Profile Editor, with one version visualizing energy impact and another without. The results indicated a modest influence of energy visualization on user decisions regarding software settings. The study received 60 responses, which, while not statistically significant, provided insights into user attitudes towards sustainability and security. The report emphasizes the importance of balancing security features with energy efficiency, aiming to develop an energy dashboard to inform users about the energy implications of their settings. The research is part of an ongoing commitment by WithSecure to integrate sustainability into their cybersecurity solutions.
