

This research article examines the impact of the Payment Service Directive 2 (PSD2) on the payment services market, focusing on the legal frameworks in Poland and the UK. The article outlines the objectives of PSD2, which came into effect on January 13, 2018, replacing the previous directive to enhance competition and facilitate new market entrants. It details the legislative changes and their implications for companies providing payment services. The analysis includes a comparative study of the implementation of PSD2 in both countries, highlighting differences in market accessibility for non-bank financial companies. The article also discusses the introduction of new legal entities, specifically Account Information Service Providers (AISP) and Payment Initiation Service Providers (PISP), aimed at allowing third-party providers to enter the market. The findings suggest that PSD2 has significantly influenced the structure of the payment services market, promoting competition and innovation among service providers.
