This case study details the collaboration between X-Team and District Taco to address challenges posed by legacy code within the restaurant's technology infrastructure. X-Team implemented automation pipelines using Google App Engine and conducted a comprehensive review of the existing codebase. The team optimized essential components and transferred salvageable parts to GitHub for improved version control. Additionally, a custom documentation repository was created on GitBook to facilitate future engineering efforts. New back-end APIs were developed with FastAPI, enhancing code deployment efficiency. The transition to cloud-based infrastructure using Kubernetes allowed for better operational flexibility and centralized data management. As a result, District Taco experienced significant improvements in operational efficiency, with key technical metrics shifting from days to hours. The centralized version control and robust documentation system have also streamlined onboarding processes for new engineers, reducing knowledge loss and enhancing overall resilience in their technology framework.
