FOX Sports Streaming Performance Improvement Case Study

This case study details the collaboration between X-Team and FOX Sports to address streaming performance issues and reduce infrastructure costs. The project commenced in 2008, focusing on enhancing scalability and user experience during high-traffic events, such as the Super Bowl. X-Team migrated key services from Node.js to Go, which significantly improved the handling of traffic. The new services maintained only 12% CPU usage and consumed 20MB of RAM under heavy loads, allowing FOX Sports to manage higher traffic volumes without disruption. Additionally, X-Team developed a disaster recovery service to reroute users from overloaded channels and a decisioning service to optimize streaming paths based on user location. The ConfigTool Service enabled A/B testing for traffic distribution, ensuring efficient load management. Overall, the collaboration resulted in improved performance, scalability, and a seamless user experience, while effectively lowering cloud infrastructure costs.
