Re-Platforming Instil to Scale for Enterprise Nonprofits

This case study details the collaboration between Instil, a nonprofit relationship management platform, and X-Team to rebuild its donor management system aimed at enterprise clients. The project commenced in 2024 and involved leveraging X-Team's extensive talent network to source developers skilled in React, Node.js, and GraphQL. During the peak of the project, nearly half of the team consisted of X-Team engineers, who significantly enhanced the sprint team's velocity, leading to major platform improvements tailored for enterprise-level clients. Beyond technical enhancements, the collaboration positively influenced Instil's team culture, fostering teamwork and adaptability. The project not only addressed immediate needs but also positioned Instil for long-term growth by equipping them with the necessary tools to meet evolving enterprise demands. The case study outlines the challenges faced by Instil, including the need for granular permission management and the transition from RESTful to GraphQL APIs, and highlights the services provided by X-Team to modernize Instil's platform.
