This case study details the initiatives undertaken by Aguas de Calpe, a joint venture established in 1999, to enhance water and wastewater services in Calpe, Spain. The utility serves over 18,400 subscribers and manages extensive distribution and sewerage networks. Faced with significant challenges due to increased water demand during the summer months and environmental concerns, Aguas de Calpe aimed to implement digital solutions to improve service efficiency. The deployment of Xylem Vue applications, including the Unified Network Management application, allowed for the creation of a digital twin of the water distribution network. This technology facilitated real-time monitoring and simulation of network operations, leading to a 35% reduction in non-revenue water and an 89% increase in distribution network performance. Additionally, the project enhanced flood management capabilities, generating 26 early warnings in one year. The utility also achieved certification under the UNE 178101-1 standard, marking a significant milestone in smart water management.
