Cybersecurity Support for Electoral Campaigns

This case study outlines the efforts of Defending Digital Campaigns (DDC) to enhance cybersecurity for electoral campaigns using YubiKeys. DDC, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization, provides access to cybersecurity products and services to political campaigns, ensuring they are equipped to protect sensitive information against increasing threats. The organization has partnered with Yubico to implement the Secure It Forward program, which allows campaigns to receive YubiKeys at no cost. The study details the importance of strong authentication methods, particularly for high-risk users in the political sector, and emphasizes the need for campaigns to prioritize cybersecurity despite budget constraints. DDC also offers training and support to help campaign staff effectively utilize YubiKeys across various platforms. By securing their own operations with YubiKeys, DDC sets an example for their partners, reinforcing the critical role of cybersecurity in safeguarding democracy and election integrity.
