This report surveys IT and security professionals regarding the role of network segmentation within Zero Trust architectures. It highlights that a significant majority of respondents view Zero Trust principles as essential for enhancing cybersecurity postures. Microsegmentation is identified as a critical control that aligns with Zero Trust by enforcing granular access control and minimizing attack surfaces. The report presents findings from a survey of 262 professionals, detailing their perspectives on the challenges of implementing microsegmentation and the relevance of the NSA’s Zero Trust Maturity Model. Despite the recognition of its importance, many respondents face obstacles in deploying microsegmentation technologies. The report also discusses the prevalence of ransomware as a primary concern among cybersecurity professionals and the necessity for effective segmentation to mitigate lateral movement attacks. Additionally, it outlines the NSA's seven pillars of Zero Trust and their significance in achieving robust security outcomes, emphasizing the need for organizations to adopt these principles to secure their networks effectively.
