Securing Mobile Access to Productivity Applications

This technical report examines the challenges organizations face in securing mobile access to productivity applications, particularly in a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) environment. The report is based on data collected from 250 IT and security leaders between May 22 and August 8, 2022. It outlines the increasing use of productivity tools like Microsoft Office 365 on mobile devices and the associated risks of exposing sensitive corporate information. Key concerns include implementing security best practices, with 65% of IT leaders prioritizing this aspect. The report details common security practices, such as two-factor authentication and mobile device management, which are employed by 80% and 76% of organizations, respectively. Additionally, it highlights the visibility challenges faced by security teams regarding compromised devices and third-party app stores. The report also notes that compliance with regulations like GDPR and PCI DSS is crucial for mobile endpoint security, affecting nearly half of the respondents' security strategies.
