This case study outlines the successful outcomes of the School Turnaround Pilot Program implemented in Hawkins Mill Elementary and Trezevant High School in Memphis, Tennessee. Both schools, which had faced chronic absenteeism and low academic performance, partnered with Cognia to improve their educational standards. The program led to significant gains in academic achievement, with Hawkins Mill Elementary increasing its English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency rate from 5.6% to 21.7% and Trezevant High School from 6.1% to 16.9%. Additionally, both schools achieved substantial reductions in chronic absenteeism, with Hawkins Mill cutting its rate from 29.2% to 13.6%. The case study details the key components of success, including strategic planning, professional development, and capacity building, which fostered a collaborative environment for improvement. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the program in transforming the schools and highlight the importance of partnerships in educational reform.
