Automating Data Interoperability in Pediatric Care

This technical report outlines the efforts of Children’s Hospital Colorado to automate data interoperability between Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and hospital systems to enhance pediatric care. The hospital faced significant challenges with manual workflows that delayed access to critical EMS data, impacting patient outcomes and increasing administrative burdens. By implementing ESO Health Data Exchange, the hospital reduced the time required to access EMS records from an average of six days to just three minutes. This automation not only improved the efficiency of data transfer but also facilitated evidence-based decision-making by providing real-time access to patient information during emergency care. The report details how this shift has resulted in better collaboration among clinical teams, improved patient outcomes, and significant cost savings of approximately $40,000 annually in staff productivity. The hospital's commitment to innovation in healthcare is further demonstrated through ongoing projects aimed at enhancing data interoperability and community health initiatives.
