This case study examines the risk of forced labor in the cocoa sector, particularly in Cote D'Ivoire, where economic disparities can lead to poor labor practices. The study involved a survey conducted by Premise in collaboration with an independent market leader, targeting various groups including farm owners, sharecroppers, laborers, and community members. The survey aimed to assess work conditions and promote human rights by determining an overall risk score based on responses to specific questions. The findings revealed that risk levels could be identified geographically, enabling cocoa organizations to assess safety in cocoa purchasing and identify areas needing attention. The study emphasizes the importance of monitoring labor conditions to ensure compliance and promote sustainable growth, highlighting the role of technology in gathering real-time data to address these issues effectively.
