This technical report evaluates a pilot project for a battery-based shore power system implemented at the Port of Rotterdam, specifically focusing on Pilot Phase B in Waalhaven. The objective of this pilot is to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of mobile shore power units in reducing emissions from berthed vessels, in compliance with the FuelEU Maritime regulation. The report details the pilot system layout, including the technology selection and installation processes. It also analyzes the power supply, energy consumption, and system functionality, reliability, and safety. The report outlines the logistical and operational implications of the mobile shore power system, emphasizing the need for flexible cable management to accommodate various vessel types. Conclusions and recommendations are provided based on the evaluation of the pilot, which ran from April to July 2024. The findings aim to support the Port of Rotterdam's goals of improving air quality and reducing climate impact through innovative shore power solutions.
