WestRock is a manufacturing company based in the United States, specializing in the pulp and paper as well as packaging and containers sectors. Founded in 2015, the company has grown to employ over 10,000 individuals and reported revenue of approximately $19.46 billion. WestRock's focus includes the development of innovative packaging solutions that address sustainability concerns within the industry. A recent research document highlights the company's exploration of smart tags and their impact on the recyclability of corrugated packaging. This study, conducted in collaboration with the National Council for Air and Stream Improvement (NCASI), assessed various smart label technologies, including RFID and Bluetooth low-energy options, to determine their effects on the recycling process. Findings indicated that these smart labels did not significantly hinder the recyclability of corrugated boxes, suggesting that advancements in smart label technology have minimized negative impacts on recycling systems. Overall, WestRock's commitment to research and development in sustainable packaging practices is evident through its ongoing investigations into the integration of technology in packaging solutions.
